house

This house in the neighborhood has confused me for quite some time... it's the only one in the area that is of this general architectural type. While houses like mine are 1950's ranch this looks like it might be an older style, leading me to believe that it was an existing structure in the area and houses like mine were built around it. So after doing some parcel research online I learned that it was built the same year as the rest of the houses... which has left me stumped. I'd really like to know the story of this place.

carpet

I went shopping tonight with mom and was really surprised at the amount of remodel work at the good ol' vancouver mall. I'm shocked how bright these stores are now, and how white the carpet is [or was]. I know bright and open is in... but I wonder how long high traffic interiors can last this way?

sidewalk closed

One of the trivial things this summer that has really irked me is the construction on the next block over from work. They've been building an addition and parking lot on a vacant site, closing the sidewalk and blocking at least 4 free parking spots in the area. I'm sure it won't go on much longer, now that they only have the driveway to pour for major exterior work... I know it's not a big deal, but I'll be glad when it's done.

baseball

I went to my cousin Patrick's [in red] baseball game tonight... the kid is pretty good. It was fun to hang outside for a while and watch a game... really laid back and nice. It reminded me of playing soccer when I was his age, I sort of miss it.

propstra square

I had lunch in the park today and watched a bunch of people [tourists] wonder around the clock tower... it's pretty entertaining to see them rationalize the salmon and watch the doors pop open at noon and tell the story of native american's and the salmon run.

diploma

I got my diploma in the mail yesterday, so today I found the folio and had a good look at it. It's hard to believe the last 4 years of my life and my architectural education/headache/heartache/victories/studio culture are all embodied in this one piece of paper.

pearl district

Mike and I wandered (dare I say drifted?) around the Pearl District this morning.... I hope to live down here one day, when I can actually afford it. The "Go By Streetcar" sign is in reference to the iconic "Go By Rail" sign of the train station a few blocks away. Fantastic.
